On April 25, Center for Freedom and Justice (CFJ) arranged a meeting between local Palestinian women and Jerualem based organization called Sulha also with Khutwat Center for the project of Local Market which is funded by the Japanese Volunteer Center (JVC). The meeting took place in a local park in Beit Ummmar that CFJ is developing.
The attendants of the meeting discussed the possibilities of distributing the products of twenty-five Palestinian woman groups in Israel, because the demand in Palestine alone is not able to cover their complete supply. The project will give increased economic independence to Palestinian women and will serve as a small step towards gender equality.
Many of the over 150 women that are organized through these groups, are unfortunately the only source of income for their family and household; and increased income would there before mean a lot to them, and deeply improve many families' lives. Another positive aspect of the project is to create bridges between nations through cooperation from both sides of the border and it may improve the relationship between the populations itself.
The Sulha organization was pleased with the idea and products, and are bringing samples back to show their partners, hopefully they will feel the same
